What's new from the Capitol?

Three librarians from the Eastern Panhandle visited our State Delegates and Senators last week in Charleston in efforts to acquire sustainable, dependable funding for libraries.  Martinsburg-Berkeley County Public Libraries receives its tax-based funding from four sources; the West Virginia Library Commission, the Berkeley County Commission, the City of Martinsburg and the Berkeley County School Board.  Due to funding cuts, we are faced with a budget reduction of about 1/3 in the next fiscal year.  The impact on this cut to our four libraries will be a reduction in hours of operation, staffing, availability of materials and programs. 

How can you make a difference?  Contact your state representatives to request their support on bills that would ensure sustainable funding for libraries.  Addresses for Berkeley County Delegates and Senators are listed below.
