An apple a day...

Apples and the apple industry have been part of Berkeley County's history and culture even before the area became part of West Virginia, yet many residents know little about this topic.

Join us on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 11:00 AM for a program with Karen Burkhardt. She will explain Berkeley County's local apple industry, its history, and the many ways that it has changed. She will also discuss some of our favorite apple varieties. This program is free and open to the public.

Born in northern Ohio, Burkhardt was raised on a family fruit orchard started by her great grandfather. She earned a BS in Horticulture (majoring in pomology, the study of growing fruit), from Ohio State University. She was employed by Knouse Foods, which produces Lucky Leaf and Musselman applesauce, for twenty-four years.
